Ex-Lone Star Defender Janjay Jacobs Endorses Raji for LFA Continuity

MONROVIA — Former Lone Star defender Janjay Jacobs has thrown his support behind Mustapha Raji ahead of the upcoming Liberia Football Association elections, arguing that continuity — not disruption — is what Liberian football needs at this stage.

Jacobs said reform remains necessary for the game’s growth but warned that change should be deliberate, responsible and anchored in institutional experience rather than emotion or short-term dissatisfaction.

With the election approaching, Jacobs urged football stakeholders to resist framing the contest around personalities, instead focusing on direction, governance and long-term stability.

He noted that both leading contenders — Raji and Cassell Kuoh — are respected football figures who have contributed meaningfully to the development of the sport in Liberia.

Still, Jacobs said elections ultimately require a judgment about what best serves the national game at a critical moment.

“Mustapha Raji represents experience, institutional stability and continuity at a time when Liberian football still requires order, structure and credibility within FIFA and CAF,” Jacobs said.

Jacobs acknowledged shortcomings under Raji’s leadership, particularly in communication and on-field results, but said the broader governance framework of the Liberia Football Association has remained intact.

He also praised Kuoh for articulating a reform-oriented vision, backed by strong club-level experience and an understanding of widespread frustration among football stakeholders.

“His message resonates with those calling for change,” Jacobs said. “But leading a football federation goes beyond urgency and good intentions. It requires deep institutional knowledge, diplomatic competence and the ability to carefully navigate international football politics — areas where continuity and experience remain critical.”

Jacobs said consolidating and strengthening existing systems under Raji’s leadership, rather than dismantling them, represents the most responsible path forward for Liberian football at this time.
