GBARNGA – Bong County Finance Officer Silas Tokpa has revealed that the county administration is grappling with internal conflicts, raising serious concerns about the working relationship among local officials.
According to Tokpa, multiple attempts have been made to resolve the ongoing tensions to ensure the effective operation of the county leadership, but those efforts have so far proven futile.
“We have internal fights at the county level. We’ve tried to resolve them, but it’s still there,” Tokpa disclosed.
He noted that while the friction may not be obvious to the public, it continues to persist behind closed doors, with little to no progress in mediation.
Tokpa attributed the discord to disagreements over the implementation of checks and balances—a mechanism he believes is essential for transparent and accountable governance.
“It’s because of the check-and-balance issue. We’re still having disputes, but we’re trying to work through it,” he added.
Despite the prevailing tensions, the Finance Officer expressed optimism that the situation could improve, especially following a recent training organized by NAYMOTE for local government officials. The training focused on strengthening administrative effectiveness and performance.
Tokpa’s candid remarks have since stirred public reaction, with many residents expressing concern over the implications for accountability and service delivery in the county.
Citizens have criticized the divisions within the leadership, urging officials to put aside personal differences and work collectively for the development and progress of Bong County.
