MONROVIA — Corporate professional and football administrator Ignatius M. Boakai has officially declared his intention to contest a seat on the Executive Committee of the Liberia Football Association in the upcoming April elections.
Boakai, a native of Lofa County, enters the race with a blend of financial expertise and football management experience, built over decades in the banking sector. He currently serves as president of Invincible Eleven, one of Liberia’s most historic football clubs.
During his tenure, Boakai has overseen administrative restructuring and strategic planning reforms aimed at restoring stability and competitiveness at the club. The reforms were designed to reposition Invincible Eleven among Liberia’s elite teams.
Boakai has repeatedly said his long-term goal is to ensure the club regains its full status and competitive edge in domestic football.
In announcing his bid for the LFA Executive Committee, Boakai emphasized the need to strengthen Liberia’s international competitiveness. He believes improved club management systems, stronger youth development programs and structured talent development will better position Liberian teams to compete effectively at regional and continental levels.
Youth empowerment is central to his platform. Boakai says football must serve as a vehicle for opportunity for Liberia’s young population and has pledged to advocate for improved sporting infrastructure to expand youth participation and create pathways for growth both on and off the field.
The veteran financial professional also stressed the need to diversify football financing in Liberia. He said he plans to work with LFA leadership to increase corporate and private sector investment in the sport, reducing reliance on limited government support and FIFA funding.
According to Boakai, stronger sponsorship deals and strategic partnerships could significantly improve league operations and strengthen football structures nationwide.
With the April elections approaching, Boakai’s candidacy adds to a growing list of stakeholders seeking to influence the future direction of Liberian football through the LFA Executive Committee.
