MONROVIA — Minister of Health, Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, will continue the second phase of her nationwide healthcare assessment tour beginning Sunday, August 11. Departing from Monrovia, she will first visit Sinoe County, followed by other counties. This tour is part of her ongoing efforts to evaluate and enhance healthcare service delivery across the country, ensuring that the medical needs of communities are adequately met.
In the first phase of the tour, Dr. Kpoto addressed challenges faced by healthcare facilities, including inadequate medical supplies, low compensation for healthcare workers, and poor infrastructure. The tour began with a brief stop in Tappita, Nimba County, where she was welcomed by healthcare workers before moving on to the southeastern region.
In Grand Gedeh County, healthcare workers acknowledged and welcomed Dr. Kpoto’s visit. She toured several community clinics, including B’Hai Tarway Clinic, Toe Town Clinic, and Duogee Town Clinic, and also visited Zwedru, the capital of Grand Gedeh County.
The assessment continued in River Gee County, where Dr. Kpoto and her team evaluated several healthcare facilities. During her visit to Gmomaken Community Clinic, local resident Ma Rebecca Jaye presented Dr. Kpoto with a rooster as a token of appreciation, noting, “It is the first time for a Health Minister to visit Gmomaken.” Other facilities assessed in River Gee County included Killepo Clinic, Putuken Clinic, Gbeapo Health Center, Jarkaken Clinic, Pronoken Clinic, Sarbo Health Center, and Fish Town Referral Hospital.
Dr. Kpoto emphasized the importance of the tour, stating, “We are aligning the health sector with the Rescue Mission Agenda by ensuring we achieve the objectives of the mandate coined with the acronym, ‘ARREST’. Please present your stories as they are because this is an assessment tour. We will achieve the quick impact deliverables immediately and assure our commitment to implementing the others upon our return to Monrovia.”
The tour proceeded to Grand Kru County, where the team was warmly received at the Behwan Checkpoint by the County Health Team and Hon. Antoinette W. Nimely, Superintendent of Grand Kru County. In Grand Kru, Dr. Kpoto and her team visited Behwan Health Center, Barclayville Health Center, Rally Time Hospital, and the County Health Team Office. They engaged with health practitioners, community leaders, and local government officials to discuss the state of healthcare services in their regions.
In Maryland County, the County Health Team and Mr. John Bayee, a representative of the Superintendent, welcomed the delegation. The team continued their assessment at several healthcare facilities, including Martha Tubman Hospital, Pleebo Health Center, Boniken Clinic, Manolu Clinic, Edith H. Wallace Health Center, Yediaken Clinic, Old Sodoken Clinic, and J.J. Dossen Hospital.
The second phase of the nationwide assessment tour will continue as Dr. Kpoto and her team head to Sinoe County, aiming to further evaluate and address the healthcare challenges in the region.
