GANTA, Nimba County — Police in Nimba County have arrested a Guinean man accused of attempting to use witchcraft to assassinate Sen. Samuel G. Kogar at his residence along the Ganta-Gbarnga highway.
The suspect, identified only as Diasielay and believed to be in his early 40s, was apprehended late Monday night after allegedly sneaking into the senator’s compound. Authorities said the intrusion was foiled before any harm was done.
Confession and Motive
During questioning, Diasielay reportedly admitted to plotting the senator’s death through supernatural means. Police said he claimed he had been contracted by an unidentified individual but refused to disclose a name.
In an unusual step, the Liberia National Police in Nimba handed the suspect over to the local traditional council through the Bureau of Customs and Cultural Affairs.
The traditional council is expected to conduct its own inquiry to determine the scope of the alleged plot, identify possible sponsors, and establish whether others were involved.
Sen. Kogar, visibly shaken by the incident, called on Nimba residents to remain calm and avoid retaliation while the matter is investigated.
“I urge all citizens to exercise restraint as we await the outcome of a full-scale inquiry,” he said.
