Group Demands Arrest of Cllr. Ja’neh Over ‘Liberia-Guinea Tensions’

Monrovia – A political pressure group, the Green Revolution of Liberia, has issued a warning of unspecified actions against the Liberian government if it fails to summon and investigate former Associate Justice Cllr. Kabineh Ja’neh. The group accuses Ja’neh of escalating tensions between Liberia and Guinea with allegations against the Liberian government.

Cllr. Ja’neh, speaking recently on the popular Spoon Network, accused the government, including Justice Minister and Attorney General Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh and Liberia National Police Inspector General Gregory O.W. Coleman, of ordering the assassination of his client, Ibrahim Kali Cherif. Cherif, who fled Guinea to seek refuge in Liberia, had been accused by Guinea’s military junta of plotting to overthrow its government.

While in Liberia, Cherif was arrested at the Liberia-Guinea border by Liberian security authorities. According to Ja’neh, Cherif was charged with mercenary activities, including recruiting ex-combatants to oppose the Guinean junta, but was later released on bond. Ja’neh further alleged that his client mysteriously disappeared from the Monrovia Central Prison, with the Liberian government remaining silent on his whereabouts.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, in Monrovia, the Green Revolution of Liberia’s National Chair, Manja Varney G. Kromah, claimed that Ja’neh’s statements had fueled accusations from the Guinean government that Liberia was harboring a traitor. According to Kromah, these allegations have heightened diplomatic tensions between the two nations, with Guinea accusing Liberia of “invasion” and “protecting traitors.”

Kromah criticized Ja’neh for allegedly working to escalate the situation instead of allowing the legal system to resolve the case. He described Ja’neh’s allegations as “treasonable” and urged the Liberian government to summon the former Associate Justice to substantiate his claims.

“Former Associate Justice Ja’neh and his group of thugs are bent on escalating this situation through dubious tactics, which have the potential to strain or sever diplomatic relations between the two countries,” Kromah stated.

He further alleged that Ja’neh’s actions were rooted in ulterior motives, referencing his role as a former spokesperson for the disbanded LURD rebel group during Liberia’s civil war. Kromah also claimed Ja’neh had violated legal ethics in the Cherif case, which led to his dismissal from the case by Judge Willie.

“We call on the Government of Liberia to immediately arrest and prosecute former Associate Justice Kabineh Ja’neh for these treasonable acts and for putting the lives of Minister Tweh, Inspector General Coleman, and other top government officials at risk,” Kromah emphasized.

The Green Revolution of Liberia warns that Ja’neh’s allegations, if left unaddressed, could jeopardize peace and stability within Liberia and worsen relations with Guinea. The group has vowed to take unspecified actions if the government does not act swiftly to address the issue.
