MONROVIA — Former Montserrado County Superintendent Grace Kpaan was arrested and brought before the Monrovia City Court Wednesday following an arrest warrant issued against her for allegedly ordering the destruction of two residential properties on Bushrod Island.
The court writ, issued upon the complaint of private prosecutor Marck Harris, accuses Kpaan and an unidentified yellow machine operator of criminal mischief in violation of Section 15.5 of the New Penal Law of Liberia. The complaint alleges that on Saturday, April 12, at approximately 3:30 p.m., in the Tweh’s Community, Bushrod Island, Madam Kpaan unlawfully ordered the operator to demolish two houses — a structure belonging to Mr. Magau valued at $83,795 and another owned by one Madam Agnes valued at $157,655. The total damages are estimated at $241,450.
“You are hereby commanded to arrest the living bodies of Grace Kpaan and a yellow machine operator, defendant(s) to be identified, and forthwith bring them before the Monrovia City Court,” the arrest warrant read, citing the alleged violation of statutory laws of Liberia and the unlawful destruction of property.
Madam Kpaan appeared before the court in accordance with the writ and was formally charged. She was later released into the custody of her lawyer after posting a criminal appearance bond.
