Monrovia – The Ministry of Internal Affairs’ plans to stage a grand welcome for President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr. upon his return from Asia has sparked controversy among critics, who view the move as a politicization of public resources. Scheduled for Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Roberts International Airport, the ceremony, in the view of critics mirrors the very practices once condemned by the current administration when they were in opposition.
The directive, issued by Acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. Samuel F. Brown, compels all ministry staff to attend the event, with transportation provided to and from the airport. Employees have been instructed to assemble at the central office for a shuttle service to the ceremony.
This directive starkly contrasts the Unity Party’s earlier stance, which vocally criticized the previous Weah-led administration for similar actions deemed wasteful and inappropriate uses of government employees’ time and public funds. Critics argue that such practices blur the lines between state and political party activities, misusing public resources for what should be a nonpartisan presidential duty.
