Monrovia – Former representative candidate for Montserrado County Electoral District 17, Rev. Adolphus Capehart, has condemned the recent fire outbreak at the Capitol Building, describing it as both barbaric and unpatriotic.
Rev. Capehart asserted that the reported actions of unknown individuals attempting to set the Capitol ablaze demonstrate a lack of respect for the sacrifices made by those who fought to establish Liberia’s place on the global stage.
He emphasized that for Liberia to progress and achieve meaningful development, citizens must honor the efforts of those who dedicated their lives to the nation’s advancement.
“Rebuilding our nation begins with acknowledging those who gave their all to put Liberia on the map. Citizens must respect and cherish their efforts, respect our elders, uphold the rule of law, and prioritize the country above all else,” he stated.
Rev. Capehart called on Liberians to protect and value the achievements the country has made since its independence. His remarks were shared in a social media post.
The cleric also attributed Liberia’s underdevelopment to the poor decisions made by voters in electing their leaders. He criticized politicians for exploiting the vulnerabilities of citizens by engaging in vote-buying practices, such as trucking voters during elections.
“A nation built on dishonesty, with legislators elected through trucking and preying on the vulnerabilities of our impoverished citizens, will only continue to sink deeper,” he noted.
