Former President Weah donates to Liberian muslims for Ramadan

Monrovia – Former President George Manneh Weah has extended support to Liberian Muslims in observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan, donating food items and cash to various mosques on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.

The donation included ten bags of rice, five cartons of fish, five cartons of chicken, 15 cases of water and soft drinks, and a cash package of $300 per mosque. The items were distributed to several mosques as part of Weah’s gesture of solidarity with the Muslim community during their period of fasting and prayer.

Aworna Clarke, a member of the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) Disciplinary Committee, presented the donation on behalf of the former president. Speaking at the Gurley Street Mosque, Clarke described the gesture as a demonstration of Weah’s continued support for Muslims and their spiritual commitment.

“This donation from Mr. Weah’s office is his way of standing with our brothers and sisters who are fasting and praying for the nation,” Clarke said, urging the Muslim community to continue praying for peace and stability in Liberia.

Receiving the donation, Grand Mufti Sheik Abu Bakar Sumaworo expressed gratitude on behalf of the Muslim community, describing Weah’s contribution as timely and significant.

“We are not surprised by this donation because it is not the first time he has supported the Muslim community in Liberia,” Sumaworo noted.

He further emphasized the importance of national unity, stating that Muslims would use the holy month of Ramadan to offer prayers for peace and reconciliation.

“We will use this Ramadan to pray for peace so that the divisions in our nation can be resolved,” he added.
