FLAC, MCC Partner on ‘Paint the City’ Drive

MONROVIA, Liberia — The Federation of Liberian Associations in Canada has partnered with the Monrovia City Corporation to roll out its annual “Paint the City” campaign, a civic initiative aimed at improving urban aesthetics and strengthening public pride in the capital.

The campaign officially kicked off Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025, along Broad Street, drawing staff of the Monrovia City Corporation and members of FLAC in a show of collaboration between the Liberian diaspora and local authorities.

The initiative focuses on beautifying key commercial corridors in Monrovia, enhancing cleanliness and orderliness in some of the city’s busiest areas. In support of the effort, FLAC donated 30 buckets of paint to give selected public spaces a facelift.

Representing FLAC at the launch were Liberia’s Trade and Investment Representative to Canada, Jallahqueena Hawa Konneh, and Bill Sandy, chief executive officer of QE24 Canada.

In a telephone interview, FLAC President Joseph Zangar Bright underscored the importance of diaspora engagement in national development, describing the partnership as a shared commitment to Liberia’s progress.

“Liberia’s development is a shared responsibility,” Zangar said. “As Liberians in the diaspora, we believe it is essential to work hand in hand with the Government of Liberia and local authorities like the Monrovia City Corporation.”

He said the “Paint the City” campaign reflects FLAC’s broader commitment to community development, volunteerism and positive civic engagement.

Receiving the donation, Monrovia City Mayor John Siafa welcomed the partnership, calling it a meaningful contribution to the city’s ongoing efforts to improve sanitation and public order. He praised FLAC for its continued support and urged other diaspora and local organizations to pursue similar collaborative initiatives.

The annual “Paint the City” campaign has grown into a flagship civic program for FLAC, symbolizing unity, patriotism and practical engagement in Liberia’s development.

The Federation of Liberian Associations in Canada is an umbrella body representing Liberian community organizations across Canada. It focuses on promoting unity among Liberians in the diaspora while supporting initiatives that contribute to Liberia’s social and economic advancement.
