Monrovia – The Female Journalists Association of Liberia (FeJAL) is set to host its High-Level Media Women Symposium on Thursday, October 10, 2024, aiming to chart a new course for women’s leadership and equality in Liberia’s media landscape.
According to a press release issued by FeJAL on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, the symposium will bring together prominent speakers, panelists, media professionals, and advocates to engage in discussions about empowering women in the media sector. The event will focus on sharing experiences and insights on women’s leadership, fostering gender equality, and highlighting the importance of supporting female journalists.
The release further noted that the symposium will feature findings from FeJAL’s 2nd quarter media monitoring report, which sheds light on critical gender issues in media representation and participation during the reporting period. It will also present the 1st Assessment Report on the Gender Ethics Policy, evaluating the progress made in promoting gender-sensitive reporting and newsroom practices across Liberia.
FeJAL’s initiative aims to address both the challenges and opportunities surrounding women’s leadership in the media, gender equality, and the implementation of best practices to create a more inclusive environment for female journalists nationwide.
The symposium will also celebrate the successful completion of Year III fellowships under the USAID Media Activity program, which has provided essential support, training, and mentorship to emerging female journalists in Liberia.
“These fellowships have equipped young women with the skills and confidence to thrive in media leadership positions, showcasing FeJAL’s commitment to building a sustainable pipeline of female leaders in the sector,” the statement added. FeJAL reaffirmed its dedication to advocating for the rights of women journalists and ensuring a safe and supportive environment where they can excel.
