MONROVIA – FC Fassell CEO Cassell A. Kuoh says his club is not just entering the CAF Champions League to compete — they are stepping onto the continental stage to restore pride and give Liberia the representation it deserves.
The Liberian champions were drawn against Algerian powerhouse MC Alger in the first preliminary round of the 2025–26 CAF Champions League. The draw was held Saturday in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Fassell, nicknamed the “Soccer Missionaries,” will host the first leg on September 21 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville before traveling to Algiers for the return leg on September 26 at Stade Ali-Ammar.
“We are champions, and they are champions, so they are not coming to meet a small team in Monrovia,” Kuoh said Saturday on Freedom FM’s sports program. “We are a big club and equipped to host them in Monrovia before going to Algeria.”
Kuoh stressed that, unlike Watanga FC — which played both legs of its preliminary tie in Algeria last season — Fassell will make full preparations to host MC Alger on home soil.
“This is not just about playing football,” he said. “It’s about showing that Liberia can stand tall in African football again. That’s what we’re fighting for.”
To mobilize fan support for the home fixture, Kuoh appointed Money Empire CEO Baba 2Switt as Head of Mobilization. The announcement came during a phone interview on the PUNCH GiveMe Sports program.
Baba 2Switt is no stranger to drawing crowds. On July 26, during Liberia’s 178th Independence Day celebration, he organized a concert featuring Liberian artist Christoph The Change at SKD Stadium, filling the 22,000-seat venue with fans from across the country.
“We want that same energy in September,” Kuoh said. “Liberians deserve to see their champions play at home.”
In other CAF action, Liberian FA Cup winners Backman Warriors were paired against Cotton Sport of Benin in the Confederation Cup preliminary round. The winner will face either San Pedro of Côte d’Ivoire or Aigle Royal of Cameroon in the final qualifying round.
