Erradi Recalls Arago, Sherman for Sierra Leone Friendlies

Liberia national team coach Mohammed Erradi has recalled veteran defender Jamal Arago and striker Kpah Sherman to the Lone Star squad for back-to-back international friendlies against Sierra Leone, ending their nearly three-year absences.

Arago, 32, last represented Liberia in a 2023 match against Equatorial Guinea at the SKD Sports Complex. The versatile defender, comfortable at center back and left back, returns on the back of a strong season with Libyan club Al-Ta’awon, where he made 19 appearances across all competitions and started every match.

Sherman, 34, last wore the Lone Star jersey in a 1-0 home defeat to Malawi in November 2023. The forward, who has scored two goals in 21 appearances for the national team, arrives in form after an impressive campaign with Malaysian club Kuala Lumpur City, recording five goals and five assists in 30 matches.

His path back to the national team has not been straightforward. When former coach Mario Marinica took charge in 2024, Sherman was named in his first squad but withdrew for personal reasons. Speaking to FIFA.com in September of that year, Sherman left the door open for a return.

“If I get the call, I’ll consider it again, but for now, I just want to focus on my club career and my family. But I’ve always been patriotic as a citizen. So when I get the call, I’ll find the best way to answer,” he said.

That call has now come. Sherman has spent the bulk of his professional career in Malaysia’s top flight, accumulating 64 goals and 21 assists in 125 appearances.

Erradi also handed a first call-up to Heaven Eleven defender Albert Swen, who earned the nod following an outstanding season in the Liberia Football Association First Division.

Among the notable absentees, defenders Sampson Dweh and Prince Blade, midfielder Solomon Tweh and winger Edward Ledlum were all left out. Dweh and Tweh were omitted due to minor injuries, with both given time to recover ahead of their respective preseason preparations.

Liberia faces Sierra Leone on June 6 at the Southern Arena in Bo before hosting the return fixture on June 9 at the SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville.
