MONROVIA — Ebony Morrison and Joseph Fahnbulleh have earned gold medals at the Douala 2024 Senior Championship, securing their places at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Morrison, surpassing her previous record with a time of 12.70 seconds, will compete in the women’s 100-meter hurdles at the Olympics. Fahnbulleh triumphed in the men’s 100 meters at the African Athletics Championships in Cameroon, clocking in at 10.13 seconds in the final.
The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics will run from July 26 to August 11, featuring 10,500 athletes in 329 events across 206 countries. The Paralympics will follow from August 28 to September 8, with 4,400 athletes competing in 549 events from 184 countries. Paris is preparing to welcome over 15 million tourists during the Games.
In the Men’s 100m Heat 2, Fahnbulleh secured victory with a time of 10.45 seconds, while Nigeria’s Godson Brume finished third. Fahnbulleh, now the African 100m Champion for 2024, made a stunning comeback to win the final in 10.13 seconds, ahead of Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme, who took silver with 10.15 seconds, and South Africa’s Benjamin Richardson, who earned bronze with 10.17 seconds. Nigeria’s Kanyinsola Ajayi narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth with a time of 10.20 seconds.
