Monrovia – Doriana Harris, the Executive Director of the Vision for Liberia Talent Hunt (VOLTH), has officially launched the initiative, marking a pivotal moment for Liberia’s creative industry and its youth.
Led by the Vision for Liberia Company under Harris’s stewardship, the initiative seeks to uncover, nurture, and showcase Liberia’s rich creative talent across various fields.
During her opening remarks at the launch event, Harris underscored the initiative’s significance, highlighting its potential to empower Liberian youth. “This initiative is about creating opportunities,” she said. “It’s about giving our young people a chance to shine—not just in Liberia but on an international stage. We want them to know that their talents are valued and that Liberia can be a place for them to grow and succeed.”
Founded in 2023 and officially registered in January 2024, Vision for Liberia Company is an event and production management firm with a mission to drive Liberia’s development by harnessing the immense potential of its people. The Talent Hunt Project aligns with this mission, focusing on fostering hope, creativity, and growth among Liberian youth.
“Our mission is to inspire hope, foster creativity, and empower growth,” Harris explained. “We aim to show young Liberians that their talents matter and that with the right platform, they can build sustainable careers.”
The Talent Hunt initiative is poised to become Liberia’s premier platform for discovering and showcasing exceptional talent, cultivating a vibrant community of creativity, diversity, and innovation. Harris envisions the project as more than just a talent competition.
The program is structured in phases to provide participants with comprehensive development opportunities:
- Nationwide Auditions: Inclusive auditions in key cities and communities across Liberia.
- Skill Development Boot Camp: An intensive boot camp for selected contestants to refine their skills and prepare for the next stages.
- Grand Finale: A celebratory event showcasing Liberia’s most outstanding talents and awarding prizes to winners.
This multi-stage approach distinguishes the Talent Hunt from other competitions, offering participants opportunities to enhance their craft and connect with industry leaders.
Inclusivity and affordability are central to the initiative, with contestants aged 16 and above eligible to participate for a nominal fee of $5. The competition spans diverse creative fields, including music, dance, acting, poetry, stand-up comedy, and art. Harris emphasized the platform’s importance, citing the lack of avenues for Liberian youth to exhibit their talents.
“We have so many talented individuals in Liberia, but they lack the support and platforms to excel,” she said. “This initiative aims to change that.”
Unlike one-off competitions, the Vision for Liberia Talent Hunt is designed to be a sustainable project with multiple seasons, aiming to become a household name in Liberia. “This is not just for one or two seasons,” said Gardner G. Varnie, Team Leader for Vision for Liberia. “We aim to make this a legacy project—a brand that represents the best of Liberia’s talent.”
Harris’s inspiration stems from her experiences abroad, where she observed Liberia’s untapped potential. She envisioned a platform to elevate young Liberians, enabling them to connect with industry leaders and showcase their skills globally.
“It comes with challenges and a huge budget,” Harris acknowledged, “but with the team we have and the support we’re hoping to garner, we can make this a success. This platform is about more than just showcasing talent—it’s about inspiring a generation.”
The initiative’s success hinges on collaboration and support from stakeholders. Harris called on the media to amplify the inspiring stories that the Talent Hunt will produce and invited sponsors and partners to help build a brighter future for Liberia’s youth.
“This vision requires teamwork,” she said. “Together, we can build a platform that serves as a beacon of hope and opportunity for our young people.”
As the Vision for Liberia Talent Hunt prepares for its inaugural season, excitement is building. The initiative promises to redefine Liberia’s creative landscape, offering a transformative platform for young stars to shine and thrive.
