MONROVIA — The Liberia Football Association (LFA) Upper Women’s League season will reach its climax on Friday when defending champions Determine Girls face Shaita Angels in a winner-takes-all title showdown at Tusa Field.
Determine Girls lead the standings with 57 points from 18 wins and three draws. The six-time defending champions have scored 71 goals and conceded 11 for a goal difference of plus-60.
Shaita Angels are one point behind on 56 points after 18 wins, two draws and one defeat. They have the league’s best attacking record with 82 goals scored while conceding just eight, giving them a goal difference of plus-74.
The equation is straightforward. A draw will be enough for Determine Girls to secure a seventh consecutive league title and continue their dominance of women’s football in Liberia. Shaita Angels, meanwhile, must win to claim the championship and end Determine Girls’ reign.
The league champions will receive a US$25,000 cash prize from the LFA and US$100,000 in support from the Confederation of African Football to prepare for the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Friday’s title decider was originally scheduled to be played more than a month ago but was delayed after Determine Girls and Ravia Angels challenged the eligibility of three foreign players used by Shaita Angels.
The dispute centered on Kaddy Jarju, Z. Mary Nunoo and Comfort Osei Frimpong, who featured for Shaita Angels in matches between December 2025 and January 2026. Ravia Angels argued that the players were ineligible because their work and residence permits had not been uploaded to the LFA Connect System, alleging a violation of Article 3.1 of the LFA Rules and Regulations.
The LFA Grievance and Disciplinary Committee initially ruled against Shaita Angels, resulting in the forfeiture of points and goals.
However, the LFA Appeals Committee overturned that decision and restored all points and goals deducted from the club.
The appeals panel, chaired by Cllr. Supu H.W. Cole Sr., with Co-Chairman Atty. Rawlins P. Jardia and member Sensee Kiadii, ruled that Ravia Angels’ complaint was filed outside the 10-day deadline required under Article 13.2.1 of the LFA Rules and Regulations. The complaint, filed on May 26, 2026, came approximately three to four months after the matches in question and was therefore declared void.
The committee also held that a player’s registration in the LFA Connect System constitutes conclusive evidence of eligibility. It said that once the system accepts a player’s registration, any subsequent clerical or administrative errors cannot be attributed to the club unless there is evidence of fraud, concealment or deliberate noncompliance.
The ruling reinstated all points and goals previously deducted from Shaita Angels and set aside the disciplinary committee’s decision in its entirety.
The Appeals Committee also noted that any party dissatisfied with its ruling may file a final appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland.
