Daniel Rue has been formally unveiled as Invincible Eleven’s head coach, with the task of guiding the Yellow Boys back to Liberia’s First Division.

MONROVIA — Invincible Eleven (IE) has officially unveiled  Daniel Rue as its new head coach, as the historic Liberian club begins its campaign to return to the LFA First Division.

Rue’s appointment, previously reported, was formally announced during an unveiling ceremony held late Friday evening at a local entertainment center in Sinkor.

The experienced coach holds a CAF License B Diploma and is also a CAF instructor. He has coached several clubs in Liberia, including First Division sides Freeport FC, Nimba FC and Nimba United, as well as Second Division club Tony FC and Upper Women’s League side World Girls.

His arrival comes at an important time for the Yellow Boys, who were relegated from the First Division at the end of the 2024-25 season after finishing bottom of the table with 24 points. IE secured a 2-1 victory over Global Pharma on the final day, but the result was not enough to avoid relegation.

The relegation marked another difficult chapter for one of Liberia’s most decorated football clubs. Founded in 1943, Invincible Eleven has won the Liberian top-flight championship 13 times, with its titles coming in 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1980, 1981, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1987, 1997, 1998 and 2007. The club also has five Liberian Cup titles, won in 1987, 1991, 1997, 1998 and 2011.

IE’s most recent top-flight title came in 2007, and the club has endured a series of setbacks in recent years. In 2017, the Yellow Boys were relegated from the top flight, while in 2019 they were demoted to the Third Division as a disciplinary sanction after failing to pay a fine for failing to honor a league match.

The club’s latest drop to the Second Division now gives Rue the task of rebuilding a team with a rich history and guiding it back to Liberia’s top flight.

Speaking to reporters after his unveiling, Rue described the appointment as a dream come true.

“I have always dreamed of coaching IE before I retire from football, and I’m so happy to see myself being named as the head coach of this great club,” Rue said.

While expressing his excitement over the appointment, Rue acknowledged the responsibility that comes with leading a club of IE’s stature.

He will now be tasked with helping the Yellow Boys navigate the Second Division campaign and secure promotion back to the First Division, where the club has spent much of its illustrious history.
