MONROVIA – Lofa County Senator Momo Tarnuekollie Cyrus has formally informed the Liberian Senate of his election to the Executive Committee of the Liberia Football Association, describing the development as an opportunity to strengthen legislative support for sports governance and youth empowerment in Liberia.
In a communication addressed to Senate President Pro-Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence and fellow lawmakers, Senator Cyrus disclosed that he was elected during the LFA Ordinary Congress held Friday, May 15.
The senator described the victory as “not merely a personal milestone,” but a demonstration of confidence in the Senate’s role in promoting national sports development and youth advancement.
Cyrus also expressed appreciation to Senate Plenary for what he termed its “moral encouragement, solidarity, and institutional goodwill” throughout the electoral process.
He extended special recognition to the Senate Committee on Youth and Sports, chaired by River Cess County Senator Bill Twehway, for formally endorsing and supporting his candidacy ahead of the congress.
Cyrus Pushes Support for Lonestar AFCON Qualification
In the communication, Senator Cyrus used the occasion to rally national support for Liberia’s senior national football team, the Lonestar, in its bid to qualify for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
According to him, qualification would not only elevate Liberia’s international sporting image but also inspire national unity, strengthen public morale, and motivate young people across the country.
“Sports, particularly football, remain one of the most powerful instruments for national cohesion, youth empowerment, peacebuilding, and international representation,” Cyrus wrote.
He noted that football continues to serve as a strong unifying force across Africa and beyond, bringing together people regardless of political, ethnic, or social differences.
The lawmaker further encouraged the Senate to continue supporting initiatives and mobilization efforts aimed at improving the team’s preparation and competitiveness on the continental stage.
Pledges Integrity, Accountability
Senator Cyrus pledged to serve on the LFA Executive Committee with integrity, professionalism, accountability, and dedication to national progress.
He assured colleagues that he would uphold the dignity of the Liberian Senate while contributing meaningfully to sports governance reforms and youth development initiatives in Liberia.
“Through collective effort, visionary leadership, and sustained national support, Liberia can continue making meaningful strides in sports development while creating opportunities that positively impact our youth and strengthen national unity,” he stated.
