China pledges to amplify Liberian media’s global voice, boost international communication

CHANGSHA CITY, China — The Chinese government has pledged to strengthen the global communication capacity of Liberian media outlets as part of efforts to deepen cross-cultural dialogue and promote closer ties between Liberia and other African nations.

The commitment was made during the opening ceremony of the Seminar on Media Communication Capacity for Liberia, hosted at the Hunan International Business Vocational College in central China.

Strengthening Cooperation

Speaking at the event, Mr. Liu Qi, Second-Level Researcher and Deputy Division Chief of the E-Commerce Division in Hunan’s Department of Commerce, underscored the media’s role as a critical bridge for cultural exchange and a driving force in international cooperation.

He stressed the importance of mutual learning and the convergence of ideas as essential tools for strengthening global partnerships. “The media plays an irreplaceable role in fostering understanding and cooperation among nations,” Liu said.

Seminar Goals

The two-week seminar brings together 30 Liberian journalists and media professionals, with the aim of enhancing cross-border media collaboration and building transnational networks.

Organizers say the program seeks to promote mutual understanding, boost international cooperation, and support media capacity-building initiatives through practical training and dialogue.

Host Institution

Hunan International Business Vocational College, which has a 70-year legacy in education and international training, is serving as host.

Vice President Peng Tieguang gave an overview of the college’s achievements, noting that it has trained tens of thousands of professionals from across China and more than 100 countries and regions worldwide.

“We believe in cultivating talent and sharing knowledge to build a more interconnected global society,” Peng said.

Liberian Delegation’s Remarks

Nyantee S. Togba, who heads the 30-member Liberian delegation, thanked the Chinese Embassy and the host college for the opportunity.

“This seminar is vital for expanding our understanding of Chinese culture and for equipping us with tools to navigate modern media landscapes,” Togba said. He also reaffirmed Liberia’s strong diplomatic ties with Beijing, reiterating the government’s commitment to the One China Policy.

Planned Activities

Participants will tour leading Chinese media institutions, including Hunan Daily, Changsha Daily, and the Straits Herald in Xiamen. The program will also include cultural immersion activities designed to deepen participants’ understanding of Hunan’s local traditions and China’s contemporary development path.

The seminar is expected to foster long-term cooperation between Liberian and Chinese media professionals, while helping Liberian journalists amplify their country’s voice on the global stage.
