MONROVIA – Nathan F. Reeves Sr. Charity Memorial High School delivered a dominant performance to capture both the football and kickball championships at the seventh Pennoh W. Bestman Memorial Tournament, held in a one-day competition in Paynesville.
The annual event honors the late former president of Liberia Black Star FC, Pennoh Wleh Bestman, and continues to combine competition with remembrance while promoting youth sports.
Charity High School faced Paynesville Community High School–Voker Mission in both finals, producing an action-packed day of competition.
The tournament opened with a thrilling kickball final, where Charity High School narrowly defeated PCHS-Voker Mission 7-6.
Football Final Goes to Penalties
The football final also delivered drama.
PCHS-Voker Mission took the lead in the 25th minute through Humidou Sow. Charity responded just before halftime when Prince Smith equalized in the 45th minute.
Moments after the restart, PCHS-Voker Mission regained the advantage in the 47th minute through Steven Doe. Charity answered again in the 51st minute when Jacob Freeman leveled the score at 2-2.
With neither side finding a winner in regulation, the match went to penalties.
Charity converted four attempts, while PCHS-Voker Mission missed twice, giving Charity a 4-2 shootout victory and its second title of the day.
As double champions, Charity High School received LD$10,000 in each category, along with trophies and footballs.
PCHS-Voker Mission, runners-up in both events, earned LD$5,000 and footballs.
Bestman died April 15, 2020. He served as president of Liberia Black Star FC from 1992 until his death and was also vice president for administration at the Liberia Football Association.
Under his leadership, Liberia Black Star FC achieved a historic treble in 2007, winning the national league, knockout championship and President’s Cup.
Hosted at the Willis D. Knuckles Memorial Sports Stadium, also known as Alpha Field, the tournament has become an important fixture on Liberia’s sporting calendar.

Organizers said the tournament remains focused on preserving Bestman’s legacy of leadership, service and grassroots sports development.
