CAPE MOUNT – Bea Mountain Mining Corporation (BMMC) has prioritized providing safe drinking water to all its affected communities. The company places significant emphasis on water provision as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts in these areas.

To achieve this goal, the company has invested thousands of United States dollars in acquiring modern technologies to enhance its operations. Moreover, BMMC strongly denies allegations of water or soil pollution in its operational areas, emphasizing that all activities are scientifically regulated and meet both local and international standards.

“These allegations are completely unfounded and lack any factual or scientific evidence,” the company stated. Over the years, including in recent times, water in Jikando has been tested by the company, as well as by local and independent bodies, and found to be safe.

The claim of water scarcity has also been refuted by many residents in Kinjor. “We do not have any problem with water here in Kinjor. When you go around the affected communities, you will see that BMMC has installed hand pumps and reservoirs. Even the new one they brought is powered by solar panels,” Mr. Lansanna K. Sambola, Chairman of the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP), told journalists recently.

In Jikando, concerns about potential water contamination have surfaced but remain speculative, with no evidence to substantiate them. The water in the area has been declared safe and clean for daily use. Some residents confirmed to journalists late last year that they regularly use the water for bathing, cooking, and drinking, with no reported health issues.

To further address the concerns of a few individuals, BMMC has launched several interim projects to provide alternative water sources. The company has also repaired and constructed numerous hand pumps, bringing significant relief to the communities.

For instance, in Than, the Chief Clerk of Mana Clan, Mr. Sekou Barbu, recently expressed his appreciation for BMMC’s efforts. The availability of repaired and new water facilities has been a source of delight for many citizens, who commend the company’s commitment to improving their quality of life.

Laffor Takes Charge at Wologizi FC As Benfelix Begins One-Month Suspension MONROVIA — Former Lone Star captain Anthony Slonti Laffor has been appointed caretaker head coach of Wologizi FC after head coach Jasper I. Benfelix was suspended for one month. The club announced the decision Tuesday, November 3, 2026, saying Benfelix’s suspension took immediate effect on Nov. 1 following alleged violations of its policies and regulations. According to the club, the suspension will remain in place for one month while an investigation is conducted. “During this period, Trainer Anthony S. Laffor will take charge of the team as Caretaker Head Coach and assume responsibility for all technical and coaching activities until the suspension period is completed,” the club said in a statement. Wologizi also urged its players, technical staff and officials to cooperate fully with Laffor and respect the club’s decisions and established policies. Benfelix's latest suspension follows a sanction by the Liberia Football Association (LFA) in April 2025 over allegations of match-fixing. The allegations followed a WhatsApp post in which he reportedly said he would “do anything” to help his former club, Nimba Kwado FC, avoid relegation, particularly if an opportunity arose while he was coaching Wologizi. Weeks after the controversial message surfaced, Wologizi forfeited a crucial Second Division match against Nimba Kwado. The result helped the Nimba County-based club avoid relegation, while Gompa FC and Cece United were pushed into the relegation zone. Laffor, 41, previously served as a trainer at Wologizi and will now assume full responsibility for the club's technical activities during Benfelix's absence. The former international made 47 appearances for Liberia's national team, scoring five goals. At club level, he enjoyed a successful spell with South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns, making 123 appearances and scoring 20 goals. During his time with Sundowns, Laffor won the Absa Premiership title and the CAF Champions League. His career also included spells with LISCR FC in Liberia, Ashanti Gold in Ghana, and South African sides Jomo Cosmos and SuperSport United.
