BARCLAY FARM, Margibi County – Police in Margibi County are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a one-year-eight-month-old girl, identified as Hannah Forkpa, who reportedly drowned in a creek behind her home in the Riverview Community, Barclay Farm, Margibi District #2.
According to the initial police report, the incident occurred on October 31, when the community chairman, Joseph Freeman, alerted authorities that the toddler had been found lying unconscious in a nearby creek.
A team of police officers led by Inspector Flomo Tonkollie was dispatched to the scene. A 15-man coroner jury conducted an examination of the body and concluded that the child died as a result of drowning.
During preliminary investigation, the victim’s mother, Naomi Flomo, 27, told police investigators that she had left her daughter in the care of her grandmother, Musu Flomo, 62, while she went to take a bath. Upon her return, she realized that the child was missing and immediately began searching for her.
While searching, a neighbor, Angeline Noah, 40, called to inform her that the child had been found lying in the creek. The mother rushed to the scene, retrieved her daughter, and transported her to Helena Clinic in Barclay Farm, where medical staff pronounced the toddler dead on arrival.
Ms. Noah later told investigators that she was cooking when a community member informed her that her four-year-old son, Alex King, was seen with water and mud on his body. While questioning him, the boy repeatedly mentioned the victim’s name, prompting her to check the creek, where she discovered the child’s body floating.
The remains of the deceased were later turned over to her mother and uncle, Sylvester Carter, for preservation or burial. Police say the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
