Monrovia – Lalia Fofana, the Presidential Candidate of the United Students Alliance (USA) at the African Methodist Episcopal University (AMEU), has unveiled her manifesto and leadership team ahead of the 25th Students Governing Council elections. The announcement, made on Friday, November 15, 2024, in Monrovia, was attended by scores of students, executives, supporters, and partners of the United Students Alliance, which operates under the motto, “Innovate, Integrate, and Inspire.”
Fofana declared her readiness to lead and transform the student experience at AMEU, presenting a manifesto built on five pillars aimed at addressing the key challenges faced by students. She emphasized her commitment to fostering unity and creating opportunities for growth, which she said would leave a lasting legacy for the university’s 25th Graduating Class.
During the event, Fofana introduced her team of candidates running on the USA ticket. Her leadership slate includes Mario M. Woheel as Senior Class Vice President, Stephen P. Davies as Senior Class Secretary, Matenu Fofana as Financial Secretary, Alfred C. Johnson as Junior Class President, Praise A. Luogan as Sophomore Class President, and Sekou Aminata Konneh as Freshman Class President.
Fofana highlighted scholarship support as the centerpiece of her campaign, recognizing the financial hurdles many students face. She proposed an Annual Scholarship Fund Event that would bring students and scholarship providers together to generate funding aimed at reducing financial barriers and enabling students to achieve their academic aspirations. To make this initiative successful, she promised to establish partnerships with local and international organizations, government institutions, and AMEU alumni.
Addressing the need for job readiness, Fofana pledged to create and expand internship opportunities for senior students. She outlined plans to collaborate with NGOs, government agencies, and private institutions to provide practical experience, ensuring students are well-prepared for the competitive job market.
Fofana also emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration among students. She proposed hosting interdepartmental events and inter-university networking opportunities to encourage the exchange of ideas and strengthen professional relationships. Additionally, she stressed the value of recreational activities, committing to organize regular social events to help students unwind and build connections after rigorous academic periods.
As part of her vision, Fofana proposed the introduction of a Senior Class Legacy Project. She explained that this initiative would involve collective input from class members to identify and implement a meaningful project that would benefit the university community. Furthermore, she promised to deliver high-quality souvenir packages to all members of the Senior Class, representing their dedication and achievements at AMEU.
Fofana called on her peers to support her candidacy and join her team in building a stronger, more united student body. She urged members of the 25th Graduating Class to embrace the opportunity to leave a legacy that reflects their milestone as the silver jubilee class of AMEU.
