BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa County — A corruption scandal has rocked Grand Bassa University as former President Dr. Samuel Monwell accuses top university officials of misappropriating USD $75,000. Dr. Monwell alleges that Mr. Octavious Ben, the University’s Comptroller, and Dr. J. Abraham Dee, Vice President for Administration, illegally withdrew these funds intended for university use.
In response, Comptroller Octavious Ben denied any wrongdoing, stating that the USD $75,000 was allocated for the university’s operational expenses. He clarified that only USD $23,575 was received from the Ministry of Finance in June, earmarked specifically for tuition waivers and other necessary university expenditures.
The controversy arises from the alleged mismanagement of funds designated for campus renovations, which have reportedly not commenced despite the allocation. The campus remains in disrepair, raising concerns among students and stakeholders.
Dr. J. Abraham Dee, Vice President for Administration, has strongly refuted the allegations, labeling them as “diabolical lies.” He stated, “The allegation is a blatant falsehood from the former President, as he completed his turnover note and knows we lack the authority to make such withdrawals.”
