KAKATA, Margibi — In the heart of Kakata, where green fields stretch toward the horizon and farmers still depend heavily on traditional tools, a new wave of agricultural hope is taking root. Liberia Agro Power Incorporated, a local agribusiness venture, has opened its first farm tools, seed, and agrochemical sales point in the city—aimed at transforming smallholder farming into a more productive and profitable enterprise.
Though Margibi County is often described as Liberia’s rubber belt, thousands of its residents still rely on subsistence farming for daily survival. To them, the opening of Agro Power’s new outlet feels like rain after a long dry season—timely, refreshing, and full of promise.
At the center of this initiative is Abraham King, the youthful Chief Executive Officer of Liberia Agro Power. With calm confidence, King explains that his company’s vision is to serve as “a one-stop hub for all farming needs,” offering everything from improved seeds and agrochemicals to technical training and advisory services.
“Our goal is to help farmers move from hand-to-mouth survival to commercial farming,” King said as he inspected stacks of seed packs and farm tools neatly arranged on wooden shelves. “We want every farmer to see agriculture not just as tradition, but as business.”
Agro Power’s product line includes a variety of vegetable seeds—hot pepper, lettuce, bitter ball, eggplant, radish, and cabbage—all carefully sourced to ensure high germination rates and strong field performance. The company also supplies essential farm tools such as cutlasses, rakes, slashing irons, and decanters, alongside animal feeds including wheat bran and mixed rations for poultry and livestock.
Among its chemical supplies are the Arachnida 480SL herbicide, used for effective weed control in cassava, groundnut, and bean farms, and the 480SL maturity enhancer, known for hastening the ripening of bananas and pineapples within two days while improving sugar content in sugarcane.
A final-year student at the William R. Tolbert College of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Liberia, King says he intends to use his academic knowledge to empower local farmers who lack access to modern farming techniques.
With Agro Power’s arrival, Kakata’s farming community now has access to the tools, inputs, and knowledge needed to boost productivity—and perhaps, in the coming seasons, to turn the county’s fertile soils into a true breadbasket of growth.
