Monrovia – The Liberia National Police (LNP) Public Safety Division has released its road traffic accident report for September 2024, revealing a concerning toll of 23 fatalities and numerous injuries from 157 recorded road accidents.
The report shows that among the 23 fatalities, 20 were male and 3 female. The victims included 8 operators (drivers), 7 passengers, and 8 pedestrians. Additionally, 144 people were injured, including 133 males and 11 females. The injuries were broken down into 80 operators, 52 passengers, and 12 pedestrians.
In terms of vehicular damage, 249 vehicles were involved in accidents, with 45 sustaining severe damage.
The LNP highlighted the legal responses to the incidents: 6 cases have been forwarded to court, 61 cases were withdrawn, and 90 are still under investigation.
In response to the alarming figures, the LNP renewed its call for all road users to adhere strictly to Liberia’s Vehicle and Traffic Laws to reduce accidents and improve public safety.
“The Liberia National Police remains dedicated to protecting lives and property. We urge drivers, passengers, and pedestrians to exercise caution and follow traffic regulations,” the statement emphasized.
The LNP also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement to enhance road safety across the country.
