NLA, NASSCORP Launch US$25,000 Back-to-School Partnership to Support 1,000 Vulnerable Liberians

Published: November 4, 2026

MONROVIA— The National Lottery Authority (NLA), in partnership with the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP), has launched its 2026 back-to-school initiative, with NASSCORP contributing US$25,000 to support the distribution of educational materials to 1,000 underprivileged individuals and persons with disabilities across Liberia.

The initiative, which targets 40 schools in 12 counties, forms part of the NLA’s longstanding corporate social responsibility program aimed at supporting vulnerable students and improving access to basic educational materials.

Speaking during the launch, NLA Director of Corporate Social Responsibility Watson Yeanue disclosed that the Authority sought financial support from NASSCORP to sustain the program amid competing educational commitments.

Yeanue explained that the launch was delayed because the Authority had prioritized other interventions, including the payment of registration fees and tuition for students attending community colleges and universities across Liberia.

He said the partnership with NASSCORP would enable the NLA to continue providing educational assistance to disadvantaged students and persons with disabilities.

“Staying true to our statutory responsibilities, we decided to seek a partnership to carry out this important activity. We are grateful to NASSCORP for partnering with us by providing $25,000 USD to bolster the NLA’s financial strength for the back-to-school project,” Yeanue said.

According to him, the initiative will benefit 40 schools across 12 counties, targeting approximately 1,000 beneficiaries.

He identified Grand Gedeh, River Gee, Maryland and Sinoe in southeastern Liberia; Montserrado, Grand Bassa and Bong in the central region; and Grand Cape Mount, Bomi and Gbarpolu in the western region among the counties selected for the exercise.

Although the Authority announced that 12 counties would benefit, the counties specifically identified during the launch totaled 10.

Yeanue said the project continues an educational assistance program that the NLA has implemented for more than a decade.

According to information provided during the launch, the Authority has supported more than 75 schools across Liberia’s 15 counties over the years, spending more than US$50,000 each semester on educational materials for underprivileged students and persons with disabilities.

For his part, NASSCORP Assistant Director General for Public Affairs and Training Watson Jah commended the NLA for maintaining the initiative and reaffirmed the corporation’s commitment to supporting programs that benefit Liberian children.

“NASSCORP’s mandate is to protect the future of Liberian workers and their families. We are proud to partner with the NLA on this initiative that directly impacts the future of our children,” Jah said.

He encouraged beneficiaries to make effective use of the educational materials provided through the program.

Jah also reaffirmed NASSCORP’s willingness to collaborate with the NLA on initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable populations.
