The foundation of Grand Bassa’s planned $482,000 maternity hospital is nearly complete, according to project supervisor Musa Kamara. Construction began Aug. 18.

BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa County — Grand Bassa County is building a $482,000 maternity hospital in District 2. The project supervisor said its foundation is nearly complete two months after construction began.

The Grand Bassa County administration and District 2 Rep. Clarence Banks are jointly funding the hospital. Construction began Aug. 18. County Superintendent Karyou Johnson said Innova Construction Company is building it.

Musa Kamara, the project supervisor, said the work is going well. He said moving materials from Buchanan to the Civil Compound, where the hospital is being built, is the main difficulty.

“We have the manpower here, but the only challenge we face is bringing the materials from Buchanan to Civil Compound, but everything is okay,” Kamara said.

He said crews are also renovating public buildings in Marbell, within the Civil Compound.

The county said the hospital is intended to improve maternal and newborn care for residents of District 2 and nearby areas.
