Monrovia — Liberia’s newest attacking prospect, Franklin Daliba Nyenetue, is set to make his senior national team debut when the Lone Star face Rwanda in a crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier Thursday.
The Norway-based forward has joined Liberia’s camp in Kigali as head coach Mohammed Adil Erradi prepares his team for the Group K encounter on Sept. 25.
Nyenetue, who plays for Ranheim in Norway, is among the overseas-based players who have arrived in camp and could provide Liberia with another attacking option against the Rwandans.
His potential debut comes as Erradi looks to strengthen his forward line after using a 5-3-2 formation in Liberia’s recent back-to-back matches against Sierra Leone.
The formation offered limited attacking options, but Nyenetue’s arrival gives the coach another player who can compete for a place on the front line.
The Stjørdal native began his football career with Tangmoen IL before playing for IL Stjørdals-Blink. He later joined Rosenborg BK’s under-16 team and was once included on the bench for the club’s senior side.
Nyenetue was loaned to Stjørdals-Blink in the second half of 2020 before joining Sandefjord Fotball ahead of the 2021 season. He made his Norwegian Eliteserien debut in May 2021 against Mjøndalen.
Now, the forward has the opportunity to take the next step in his career by making his first appearance for Liberia’s senior national team.
Nyenetue is one of four attacking options available to Erradi for the Rwanda and Mali qualifiers, alongside returning forward Sylvanus Nimely, Peter Wilson and Ayouba Kosiah.
Nimely, who has been away from the Lone Star setup for several years, arrived in Kigali on Tuesday after a strong spell in Uzbekistan with Kokand.
His return adds experience to Liberia’s attack, while Nyenetue offers Erradi another option as the coach considers his starting lineup for Thursday’s match.
Liberia will face Rwanda in Kigali on Sept. 25 before hosting Mali on Sept. 29 in another Group K qualifier.
For Nyenetue, the Rwanda match could mark the beginning of his senior international career and his first opportunity to make an impact in the Lone Star shirt.
