Deputy Minister Zou emphasized that public service is not about enriching oneself but rather serving the public over personal interests. The former classroom teacher asserted that the Unity Party Government’s ARIST Agenda, which was promoted during the 2023 campaign, can only be achieved when individuals within the government set aside their personal interests and work for the public good.
He indicated that the general public is watching the Unity Party’s government closely because they ran on a campaign of transparency. Therefore, there is a need for public servants to serve the public, which, according to him, will help build confidence in the Unity Party’s government.
“Working in the public sector should be seen as an opportunity for yourself because there are thousands of people capable of doing that job, but you have been called and selected by the president. It is an opportunity for you,” Mr. Zou stated.
Speaking to a team of journalists on Wednesday in Monrovia, Mr. Zou noted that the primary objective of ministers and directors at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning is to mobilize resources for the government to achieve its ARIST agenda for the common good of the citizenry.
He asserted that President Joseph N. Boakai always admonishes all officials in his government to serve diligently if the Unity Party regime is to succeed in the next six years.
The Deputy Minister for the Department of Economic Management at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Mr. Dehpue Zou, sees his current position as a humble delegation to the public, including foreign partners, which will help the Unity Party achieve its dream of making Liberia better through the adequate distribution of national resources.
“We must strive to have a critical mass of our best, talented, and dedicated sons and daughters, old and young, who are willing to be creative in their thinking about Liberia; passionate and patriotic in their love for the country; deliberate and purposeful in their actions to build Liberia; and committed enough to lead Liberia at this critical point,” he concluded.
