MONROVIA — The Paynesville Boulevard Omega LEO’s Club, a youth-driven wing of Lions Clubs International, is set to induct 30 young professionals into its ranks, with leaders pledging to redefine community service at a time when Liberia faces rising social and economic challenges.

The induction, scheduled for Sept. 26 at the Liberian Learning Center in Paynesville, will formally charter the new sub-club under the Paynesville Boulevard Lions Club, cementing its role in humanitarian outreach and grassroots problem-solving.

The Omega LEOs, which admit members between 18 and 30 years old, are positioning themselves as a break from what some critics describe as tokenistic youth involvement in community development. Instead, the group says it will focus on practical initiatives addressing gaps in education, livelihood empowerment and social welfare.

“This induction will spotlight our commitment to community engagement and our mission to uplift those in need through targeted programs and capacity-building efforts,” said President-elect Hanson G. Blayon. He pledged to lead with “integrity, unity and people-centered leadership,” stressing that the club would not simply be “another youth group on paper” but a force for meaningful change.

The ceremony will also install PBOLC’s elected leadership and highlight its first set of initiatives, which organizers say will focus on vulnerable and underserved communities in Montserrado County. Hon. John-Charuk Siafa, mayor of the Monrovia City Corporation, is expected to deliver the keynote address, emphasizing the central role of young people in driving development while calling for accountability in how service organizations fulfill their mandates.

PBOLC is part of a larger global movement. Lions Clubs International has more than 7,000 LEO clubs in over 140 countries. In Liberia, where poverty, inequality and weak local governance continue to undermine growth, observers say the effectiveness of the new LEOs will depend on whether they can turn their pledges into measurable impact.

The Sept. 26 ceremony will be an early test of that promise, with expectations that the new inductees will move beyond symbolic rituals to become a credible force in Liberia’s civic and humanitarian landscape.
