National Muslim Council of Liberia announces moon sighting for Eid al-Fitr

Monrovia – The National Muslim Council of Liberia has announced that the official moon sighting to determine the end of Ramadan and the commencement of Eid al-Fitr will take place on the evening of Saturday, March 29, 2025.

In a statement released Thursday, the Council’s National Secretary General, Kuku Reeves, emphasized that the moon sighting follows Islamic traditions and global practices for verifying the crescent moon before declaring Eid. Reeves urged all Muslims in Liberia to actively participate in this religious duty by looking for the crescent moon on the specified evening.

“The official announcement regarding Eid will be made based on the confirmed moon sighting,” the statement read.

The Council also called on Muslims who may have begun fasting on different dates to align their Eid celebrations with the majority of the Muslim community in Liberia. According to the statement, a unified observance of Eid fosters unity and strengthens the sense of brotherhood within the Muslim Ummah.

“A unified day of Eid strengthens brotherhood and reinforces our sense of unity as an Ummah. Let us stand together in harmony and celebrate this blessed occasion as one body,” the Council urged.

Appreciation to the Government

The National Muslim Council also expressed its gratitude to the Liberian government for ensuring a peaceful environment that allows Muslims to worship freely and observe the holy month of Ramadan without interference. The Council prayed for continued wisdom and guidance for the nation’s leaders in their efforts to promote peace, justice, and national development.

Nationwide Coordination for Eid Prayers

To ensure a smooth and coordinated celebration, the Council urged all Islamic organizations, Imams, and religious leaders across the country to adhere to the moon sighting announcement and disseminate the information to their respective congregations.

Furthermore, the Council announced that the official Eid prayer in Monrovia will be held at the headquarters of the National Muslim Council of Liberia. Muslims across the country are encouraged to join the congregation in offering prayers of gratitude to Allah for the completion of Ramadan and to seek His continued blessings.

As the Muslim community awaits the official declaration of Eid al-Fitr, the National Muslim Council extended its prayers for the acceptance of all fasting, prayers, and good deeds performed during Ramadan.

“May Allah accept our fasting, prayers, and good deeds and grant us a joyous and blessed Eid,” the statement concluded.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting, and is celebrated with communal prayers, feasting, and acts of charity. The final decision on the exact date of Eid in Liberia will be based on the outcome of the moon sighting on Saturday evening.
