GANTA – Police in Saclepea, Nimba County, have arrested a 19-year-old woman for kidnapping a three-month-old baby in the Brewerville community of Montserrado County.

Lisa Mark kidnapped the baby, one of a set of twins belonging to a young woman named Zinnah Kamara, on July 26. Lisa befriended Zinnah on the morning of July 26 and took the child to Nimba County.
According to Lisa, she met Zinnah and exchanged contacts with her that morning, thanking her for caring for the children. She later invited Zinnah to visit her home in Brewerville with the babies. Upon arrival, Lisa asked to take one of the babies to the market to buy foodstuffs for the home, a request to which Zinnah agreed. Zinnah’s younger sister accompanied Lisa to the market.
After the shopping, Lisa told Zinnah’s sister to head home while she stayed back to buy a few more items.
“We went to Red Light, and I bought plenty of things for the babies. After that, I told the little girl to go ahead, I’m coming. When she inquired what I wanted to do by staying back, I told her I wanted to buy clothes. That was how I brought the baby,” Lisa explained.
Lisa continued, “When I brought the baby, I did not switch off my phone. She always used to call me, and I always told her I was bringing her baby. When I reached Ganta, I gave her number to my aunt, and my aunt informed her that I was in Ganta with her baby. We kept talking until I left Ganta and came to my home, Toweh Town, with the baby. When I came to our town, I told my people, and that was how we came to Saclepea.”
Lisa said she kidnapped the baby to show to her boyfriend’s father, who had returned from the United States and wanted to see his grandchild.
“The only bad thing I did was not explain to my friend, but I did not take her baby with bad intentions. If that was the case, I would not have told my aunt to inform her that I was in Nimba with her baby. My boyfriend’s father wanted to see his grandchild, and that was why I took the baby to show him. After his departure, I would have taken the baby back to my friend,” Lisa told journalists.
When asked if her boyfriend was aware of her actions, Lisa said he was not informed. He believed she was a breastfeeding mother because she had traveled to Monrovia when she was eight months pregnant. However, the truth was that the child had died shortly after birth, and she felt ashamed to tell her boyfriend, whose father desperately wanted a grandchild.
Lisa explained that her boyfriend and his father left for the United States after hearing about her deeds. “My boyfriend’s father came to take him to America, and they have left already. They were angry with me when they heard about what I did,” she said tearfully, pleading with her friend to forgive her, insisting her actions had no evil motive.
Meanwhile, the baby has been returned to Zinnah in Montserrado County, while Lisa remains in police custody pending further investigation.
