Capitol Building on Fire

MONROVIA – Liberians woke up Wednesday morning to thick black smoke and flames billowing from the dome of the Capitol Building – the seat of the Legislature.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, but the incident comes just a day after a tense protest against the removal of Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa. Several protesters, including an aide to former President George Weah, were arrested during Tuesday’s demonstration.

Authorities are yet to comment on the cause or extent of the damage, and investigations are expected to be launched soon.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
