MONROVIA – The Liberian Investigator has learned that about 40 lawmakers determined to oust Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa as Speaker of the 55th Legislature have regrouped after an apparent failed coup attempt last Thursday.
The group convened at the Barnesville Townhall on Friday evening, resolving to form a new bloc under the leadership of Nimba County’s Samuel Korgar as chairman. This development follows the initial gathering of 47 Representatives who signed a resolution to remove House Speaker Fonati Koffa and subsequently voted to establish leadership for the bloc.
Representative Sekou Kanneh from Montserrado County District 2 was elected as co-chairman, according to sources close to The Liberian Investigator. Additionally, Representative Marcus Thomas, also from Montserrado County District 2, was elected as Secretary General.
The formation of this new bloc marks a significant shift in the dynamics within the Liberian legislature, underscoring the growing dissent against Speaker Koffa’s leadership.
This is a developing story and would be updated as more details emerge.
