Saudi-based midfielder Solomon Tweh and Jimmy Farkarlun, who plays in Major League Soccer for Austin FC, are among 24 players invited by Lone Star coach Thomas Kojo for Liberia’s two World Cup qualifiers this week.
Liberia will host Group H leaders Tunisia on March 19, followed by minnows São Tomé and Príncipe on March 24, 2025, at the SKD Sports Complex.
The 20-year-old Tweh plays for Al-Raed in the Saudi Pro League. He joined the money-spinning league in January 2025 from Senegalese club Guediawaye FC, having been recruited from Liberian third-tier side Philadelphia Lone Star FC.
Bryant Jimmy Farkarlun, 23, was selected by Austin FC via the 2024 MLS SuperDraft. He initially signed with Austin FC II in February and recorded four goals and nine assists in 24 MLS NEXT Pro matches during his first professional season. On June 29, he signed a contract with the club’s first team and made his MLS debut the same day, playing six minutes against Sporting Kansas City.
Liberia remains firmly in contention, sitting three points behind Tunisia in third place with seven points. The group winner will qualify directly for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Meanwhile, four of the nine group runners-up will advance to a playoff to determine Africa’s representative in the intercontinental qualifying playoff.
This presents an excellent opportunity for the Lone Star, who came closest to World Cup qualification in 2002. That campaign, led by the legendary George Weah, saw Liberia finish just one point behind Nigeria in their qualifying group.
After a disappointing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign under former coach Mario Marinică, Thomas Kojo hopes his team will rise to the occasion in front of the nation’s passionate supporters.
As expected, Kojo’s squad will be led by Murphy Oscar Dorley and Sampson Dweh, currently Liberia’s most high-profile players with successful tenures in Czech football. Dorley, a versatile midfielder, will command the heart of the midfield, while Dweh, a powerful central defender, will anchor the backline. Dorley is likely to partner with English-born Nohan Kenneh, a former England youth international who plays for Scotland’s Ross County on loan from Scottish Premiership side Hibernian. Kenneh will, however, compete with Solomon Tweh for the defensive midfield role.
Creative playmaker and dribbler Divine Teah is also set to play a key role. The 18-year-old recently secured a big-money move from Swedish club Hammarby to Slavia Prague, where he made his competitive debut on February 26, playing 65 minutes in a cup victory over Taborsko.
Strikers Augustine Otu, who plays in Egypt, and Ayouba Kosiah, who plies his trade in Belgium, are also back in the squad. Otu has been in strong form, scoring 11 goals this season for Egyptian second-tier side Tersana.
