MONROVIA – New Electric Energy Vehicles (NEEV) has clarified that the recent disbursement of over US$60,000 to 13 clubs was part of its corporate social responsibility initiative aimed at enhancing football development.
NEEV is owned by FC Fassell President Cassell Anthony Kuoh, a presidential aspirant in the 2026 Liberia Football Association (LFA) elections.
The clarification from NEEV follows allegations that its CEO, Cassell Kuoh, financially induced 13 clubs to vote against the 2024 Liberia Football Association budget. The allegations stemmed from a post made by football stakeholder Jallah Korvah, a strong supporter of Mr. Kuoh, claiming that each of the 13 clubs received US$5,000 as an appreciation for their votes against the passage of the LFA budget in March 2024.
“Please allow me to use this medium to inform all clubs who voted against the budget in the recent Extraordinary Congress to please go to the NEEV office to receive your second payment of the US$5,000 from NEEV Liberia,” the former LFA Treasurer wrote in the FA’s official WhatsApp chatroom.
The 13 clubs accused of benefiting from this payment include Shaita FC, Shaita Angels, Nimba Kwado, Jubilee, Determine Girls, FC Fassell (owned by Cassell Kuoh), Senior Professionals, Stages Queen, Real Mudja, Cece United, Margibi FC, Heaven Eleven, and Sinoe NPA. They reportedly voted against the LFA budget at an Extraordinary Congress in May 2024 after their appeal for an increase in club subventions was not granted by the Executive Committee.
The LFA has since launched an investigation into the allegations made by Jallah Korvah. In a statement released on January 9, 2025, the LFA said, “The Liberia Football Association has been made aware of serious allegations of financial inducement and bribery, specifically involving some club officials accused of financially influencing votes against the LFA budget during the Extraordinary Congress held on May 25, 2024.”
The statement further disclosed that the complaint was filed by an unnamed stakeholder, noting that the information was also gathered through various channels. The LFA emphasized that the allegations potentially violate FIFA and CAF codes of ethics. It revealed that individuals involved would be referred to its Ethics Committee for investigation and a final decision.
Meanwhile, a NEEV press release clarified that the company had received sponsorship requests from the named clubs in March 2024, prior to the commencement of the 2024-2025 National League.
However, Stages Queen President Chris Geeply Weah has protested, claiming that his club did not receive the US$5,000 and demanding that NEEV remove his team’s name from the list. Weah has promised to issue a statement on the matter but expressed gratitude to Cassell Kuoh as an individual for providing financial aid to the clubs.
