Paynesville – The LPRC Oilers continued their dominant run in the ongoing Liberia Basketball First Division League, remaining undefeated after a back-to-back victory over defending champions Mighty Barrolle on Sunday night.
The “Oil Boys” cruised past the “Rollers” 82–62 in a highly competitive matchup at the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Gymnasium.
Following heavy criticism after their previous clash, both teams showed marked improvement, combining for 144 total points. The first leg had ended in a low-scoring 45–38 win for the Oilers, with both sides falling just short of the 100-point mark for the entire game.
Barrolle opened Sunday’s game on a strong note, jumping to an 8–0 lead. But the Oilers responded quickly, tying it at 8–8 behind a three-pointer from standout player Fedolph Marshall. The first quarter ended 20–19 in favor of the Oilers, who extended their lead in the second quarter to as much as 10 points.
LPRC led 38–31 at halftime and maintained control throughout the second half, eventually finishing with a comfortable 20-point win.
With the victory, the Oilers have now gone six games unbeaten, solidifying their status as early title contenders.
Barrolle, on the other hand, suffered their third loss of the season — their worst start in three years.
The return of Nigerian international Chibuzo Joseph and the addition of new import Mohammed Keita could provide a much-needed boost for the struggling champions.
In other action, Invincible Eleven (IE) fell 62–46 to the Bushrod Bulls in their season opener on Saturday night at the SKD Gymnasium. It was IE’s first appearance of the season, while most other clubs have already played up to six games.
League action continues Wednesday with two exciting matchups in both the First Division and Women’s Division at the SKD Gym.
In the women’s division, D-Rockas will face defending champions Commissioners at 5 p.m. The Commissioners have been the most dominant women’s team in recent seasons.
At 7 p.m., newly promoted Spartacus — guided by the league’s only female coach, Wellay Baar, popularly known as “Drogba” — will look to return to winning form against the Bushrod Bulls. Both teams have been inconsistent in recent games.
