Monrovia – As the international transfer market heats up, many players are on the move, seeking more playing time, new challenges, and greener pastures. Among the beneficiaries of this dynamic market are two rising Liberian stars, who have recently secured moves to the South African Premier League.
On Wednesday, July 17, 2024, Emmanuel Sieh and Jegbay Konneh were unveiled by South African top-tier club, TS Galaxy FC. While the club has not disclosed the specifics of their contracts, the announcement was made public through TS Galaxy’s Facebook page, alongside six other signings.
Emmanuel Sieh, whose parent club is Real Muja, made a significant impact during the 2013/2024 Liberia Football Association First Division League season, helping Watanga clinch the Liberian championship in his debut season. The talented striker, known for his keen eye for goals, was named Watanga FC Player of the Season and top scorer, achievements that likely caught the attention of TS Galaxy.
Sieh’s impressive resume includes being named Most Valuable Player in the 2022/2023 National County Sports Meet, where he played a crucial role in Nimba County’s title victory.
Jegbay Konneh, an attacking midfielder, last played for Liberian First Division side Heaven Eleven, though he was on loan from FC Gar’ou and missed the recent season due to an overseas trial. Konneh is renowned for his exceptional passing skills and is considered one of the best midfielders in Liberia.
The transfer of Sieh and Konneh is a significant milestone for Liberian football, showcasing the country’s talent on a larger stage. The last Liberian player to shine in the South African top flight was Anthony Laffor, who won multiple titles there.
TS Galaxy, named after its owner Tim Sukazi and managed by former Borussia M’gladbach goalkeeper Sead Ramović, finished sixth in the 2023-24 season with 44 points from 30 games. With the addition of Sieh and Konneh, the club aims to build on its success and make a stronger push in the upcoming season.
This move not only represents a new chapter for Sieh and Konneh but also serves as an inspiration for other Liberian players aiming to make their mark in international football.
