Gompa FC Wins LFA National Third Division Playoff

MONROVIA — Gompa FC of Nimba County are the champions of the delayed 2024 Liberia Football Association (LFA) National Third Division Playoff.

Playing at home, Gompa defeated the Central Monrovia-based Down Town FC 1-0 in the final, which was held at the Gompa Stadium in Ganta, Nimba County, on Thursday.

Peterson Suah scored the match’s only goal from the penalty spot in the 70th minute.

Down Town FC created several scoring opportunities but fumbled before the goal. A piece of sluggish defending later led them to concede a 70th-minute penalty.

Down Town FC had secured their spot in the final by defeating District 17 Academy 3-1, while Gompa FC triumphed over Amazing FC 7-6 on penalties after a thrilling comeback.

Gompa scored a late equalizer to force a 1-1 draw, pushing the contest into post-match penalties where they eventually stunned Amazing FC.

Both Gompa and Down Town have already gained promotion to the LFA Second Division.

Meanwhile, two late goals from Prince Varflay and James Kanneh in the last 10 minutes secured District 17 Academy’s qualification to the Second Division.

District 17 FC clinched a 2-0 win over Amazing FC in the third-place match.

Amazing FC finished the game with ten men and also missed out on a place in the Second Division.
