Coach Kollie Korvy crawls to first-ever County Meet final

MONROVIA – Coach Kollie Korvy has reached his first-ever National County Sports Meet final after Lofa County edged past Margibi 5-4 in post-match penalties on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at the SKD Stadium.

Korvy, head coach of Second Division club Sinoe NPA, introduced his trademark “crawling” celebration after Thursday’s achievement, marking a significant milestone after two previously unsuccessful spells with Lofa County.

Tito Yoko gave Margibi a well-deserved lead immediately after the halftime break, but Emmanuel Flomo’s clinical finish late in the second half brought Lofa level.

The highly anticipated semifinal clash began at a blistering pace, with Margibi twice denied by the crossbar and goalpost within the first 20 minutes of play.

Ousman Kamara dribbled past two Lofa defenders before unleashing a shot that crashed against the crossbar, sparking loud cheers from Margibi fans in the stands. Moments later, H. Dah Weah had a similar opportunity, but his effort struck the goalpost. Lofa’s goalkeeper, Junior Yeanay, made three fantastic saves before Margibi’s shot-stopper, Jimmy Dorbor, was finally tested.

The first half ended goalless, but Margibi took the lead early in the second half. However, Lofa responded as their talisman, Emmanuel Flomo, skillfully maneuvered past two defenders before slotting the ball between Jimmy Dorbor’s legs for the equalizer.

With the score tied at full time, the match went to penalties, where Lofa County prevailed, securing a place in the final for the second consecutive year after losing to River Gee in the previous edition.

They will now face Grand Gedeh County, who defeated Maryland County 3-2 on Wednesday. The final is set to take place at the SKD Stadium on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Grand Bassa will take on Grand Kru in the kickball final.

Adding an exciting subplot to the grand finale, Lofa’s right-back Emmanuel Barker will battle against his twin brother, Gabriel Barker, who plays as a left-back for Grand Gedeh County.
