Big money spenders FC Fassell edge closer to LFA league title

Monrovia – As the Liberia Football Association (LFA) National League gradually draws to a close, FC Fassell, known as the ‘Soccer Missionary,’ have taken a significant step towards securing their first-ever topflight title.

On Saturday, March 8, 2025, FC Fassell delivered a commanding performance, defeating Freeport FC 7-1 in a one-sided fixture at the Tusa Field in Gardnersville.

With this victory, Fassell, known for their big-money investments, moved six points clear at the top of the league table, reaching 41 points with just six games remaining.

Enhancing Fassell’s title ambitions, their closest challengers, Discoveries SA, suffered a 2-1 defeat to Global Pharma. This loss saw Discoveries SA drop to third place, level on 35 points with Heaven Eleven, who climbed to second after beating Black Man Warriors 4-1.

Both Discoveries SA and Heaven Eleven have identical records this season, each winning 10, drawing five, and losing five of their 20 matches.

Fassell’s current position means four wins and a draw in their remaining six matches would guarantee their first LFA league title.

Striker Mark Yallah was the standout player, scoring four goals as Ivan Minnaert’s men cruised to an impressive victory against a struggling Freeport side fighting relegation. Yallah’s outstanding performance has further solidified his reputation as one of the league’s most consistent strikers, increasing his season tally to 13 goals.

Elsewhere, significant shifts occurred in the relegation battle. Shaita FC, second from bottom before match-day 20, dropped to the bottom of the table after a crushing 6-1 defeat to struggling LISCR FC at Tusa Field on Friday.

Invincible Eleven (IE), on the other hand, climbed one position after securing a thrilling 3-3 draw against FC Bea Mountain. The ‘Sunshine Yellow Boys’ now share 19 points with Shaita FC.

Meanwhile, Liberia’s historic club, Mighty Barrolle, sits in 12th place with 20 points from 20 matches. Over the weekend, Barrolle twice came from behind to secure a hard-fought 2-2 draw against defending champions Watanga FC in Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County.
