Basketball: Barrolle Battle Mongars in Best-of-Five Final Series

MONROVIA — The 2024 Liberia Basketball Association (LBA) best-of-five final series will begin this Friday, September 13, 2024, at the SKD Basketball Gymnasium.

Mighty Barrolle and Cestos Mongars are vying for this season’s First Division trophy, while Invincible Eleven and Commissioners will face off in the female division final.

In the male Second Division final, Spartacus takes on Highway Kings. Both teams have already secured promotion to the First Division.

Spartacus will meet the Kings at 5 p.m. in Friday’s first pairing, followed by the Mongars and Barrolle clash at 7 p.m. at the SKD gymnasium.

The competition will resume on Sunday with IE facing defending female division champions Commissioners at 6 p.m., followed by Barrolle welcoming the Mongars at 7 p.m. Three straight wins by any of the finalists will crown them champions of their respective divisions.

Much of the spotlight will be on the First Division fixtures.

Defending champions Barrolle defeated longtime rivals LPRC Oilers back-to-back in the playoffs. The ‘Rollers’ convincingly won the ‘Oil Boys’ 70-39 in the second decisive playoff match after securing victory in the first encounter.

Cestos Mongars secured a place in the grand final for the first time by overcoming former champions NPA Pythons. The Mongars triumphed in both playoff matches, winning 72-68 and 84-79 against the former defending champions.

Barrolle is aiming for a third consecutive First Division championship, while the Mongars are hungry for their first-ever league title.

Both clubs will also represent Liberia at the 2024 FIBA Zone-3 Clubs Championship.
