Barrolle in Pole Position to Clinch Third Basketball Title

MONROVIA — One more win and Mighty Barrolle will be crowned champions of the 2024 Liberia Basketball Association First Division League for the third time in a row.

The Rollers defeated Cestos Mongars 70-57 in game two of the best-of-five final series on Sunday at the SKD Gymnasium.

Unlike the first game, Cestos Mongars started strong in the first quarter, but that momentum didn’t last long, as Barrolle always remained within striking distance. By the last quarter, Cestos Mongars were gassed out, making this season’s best-of-five final series less competitive. Nigerian basketballer and Mighty Barrolle star Joseph Chibuzor was named man of the match. He scored 15 points and had 19 rebounds. The Rollers won game one 88-62 points.

In the women’s division, Invincible Eleven (IE) caused a major upset by defeating the defending champions, Commissioners, 57-51 points also on Sunday. The Commissioners, two-time LBA Women’s Division champions, are now facing the challenge of overcoming the deficit in game two.

Like Barrolle, the Commissioners are also aiming for a third successive title.

Spartacus staged a remarkable comeback in Game One of the Second Division category, beating Highway Kings 60-59 points.
