Barrolle, IE to square off in Basketball League opener

MONROVIA – Defending champions Mighty Barrolle will battle traditional rivals Invincible Eleven (IE) in the official opening match of the 2025 Liberia Basketball Association (LBA) First Division League.

The highly anticipated showdown is set for Friday, May 2, 2025, at 7 p.m. at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Basketball Gymnasium.

Mighty Barrolle enters the new season as the team to beat, having dominated Liberian basketball over the past four seasons. The Rollers’ impressive run took them to the Basketball Africa League (BAL) finals held in Libya, where they advanced to the last 16, played in Ivory Coast.

Led by experienced coach Asaad Fadel, Mighty Barrolle boasts a roster filled with top-tier local and foreign talent, and pundits have tipped them to retain the championship.

Their rivals, Invincible Eleven, on the other hand, are not expected to pose much of a threat after underperforming last season. IE was one of the last teams to register for the league, raising concerns about the club’s readiness to compete.

While many of their new signings remain under the radar, basketball enthusiasts remain optimistic about a strong comeback campaign for the Yellow Boys.

Friday’s opening fixtures will kick off with a Division II matchup at 4 p.m., featuring the T.S. Warriors against the Paynesville Bulldogs. That will be followed by a Division I clash between Spartacus and the Highway Kings at 5:30 p.m., before the main event between IE and Mighty Barrolle caps off the evening.
