Assad Fadel Guides Barrolle to First-Ever Basketball Africa League Qualifiers

MONROVIA — Assad Fadel will guide Mighty Barrolle to their first-ever Basketball Africa League qualifiers.

The Morocco-born Liberian has been head coach of Barrolle since 2011, winning five titles.

The ‘Rollers’ arrived in Tripoli, Libya, over the weekend for the fourth season qualifiers of the BAL.

Libya is playing host to the West Division of the qualifiers, which runs from October 8-13, 2024.

Teams expected to battle it out in Division West include hosts Al Ahly Tripoli (Libya), Abidjan Basketball Club Fighters (ABC) of Côte d’Ivoire, Stade Malien (Mali), Élan Coton (Benin), Spintex Knights Sporting (Ghana), Mighty Barrolle (Liberia), and Kriol Star (Cape Verde).

The Rollers are in Pool B with Spintex Knights (Ghana), Élan Coton (Benin), and ABC (Ivory Coast).

In Zone A are hosts Al Ahly Tripoli, Bamako Malien, Kriol Star, and USFA.

Barrolle are in Zone B with Spintex Knights, ABC Fighters, and Élan Coton.

The ‘Rollers,’ triple champions of the Liberia Basketball Association First Division League, took a 17-man delegation comprising players, technical staff, and officials over the weekend.

The best four performing clubs among the seven will secure qualification to the Elite 16, which will be held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Angola’s Petro de Luanda is the defending champion of the competition.

The BAL is a partnership between the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and NBA Africa.

It is a professional league featuring 12 club teams from across Africa.

Headquartered in Dakar, Senegal, the BAL builds on the foundation of club competitions FIBA Africa has organized across the continent and marks the NBA’s first collaboration to operate a league outside North America.
