MONROVIA — The Algerian national team will travel to Monrovia without their captain Riyad Mahrez, as confirmed by the football association.
Mahrez sustained an injury during the 2-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea and has been released for medical treatment.
Ryan Ait Nouri and Mohamed El Amin Amoura have also been ruled out of the 2025 Nations Cup tie due to injuries.
The absence of 33-year-old Mahrez, who plays for the Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli, could indirectly benefit the Lone Star.
However, Algerian Coach Vladimir Petkovic is likely to find a suitable replacement for Mahrez on the right side of the attacking line, with the availability of players such as Anis Hadj Moussa and Amir Sayoud.
Liberia will host Algeria on Tuesday, 10 September, at 4 PM at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium in Paynesville.
The North Africans are scheduled to arrive in Monrovia this Sunday on a special flight and will train on the main pitch 24 hours before the match.
Algeria leads Group E with three points, while Liberia and Togo are second and third, respectively. Equatorial Guinea is at the bottom of the group after one game each.
