39-Year-Old Ex-Lone Star Captain Returns to Local League

MONROVIA — Former Lone Star captain, Anthony Snoti Laffor, has returned to the Liberia Football Association (LFA) First Division League.

Laffor, 39, signed a two-year contract with LISCR FC, becoming the fourth former Lone Star player to sign for a local league club this season.

Zah Krangar, Solomon Grimes, and Tonia Tisdell recently joined FC Fassell, having had spells in Europe and Asia.

Laffor played for LISCR from 2002 to 2005, scoring 11 goals in 30 appearances, according to Wikipedia.

“It feels great coming back home after so many years, especially into the local league. I am looking forward to it,” he said.

“I have been having conversations with LISCR FC for months. I had to speak with my family and other people in football, and finally we arrived at an agreement, and I am happy to be where I am today,” Laffor said during an unveiling ceremony.

Laffor said he is bringing experience to the league, declaring he’s not under any pressure.

“I bring experience into the league, and you know, I am not under pressure. It’s like coming back home to enjoy playing football, playing for one of the best clubs in the league.

“I am just here to help the younger ones and make Liberian people enjoy football,” the 39-year-old added.

Laffor narrated how he saw the return of South African great Benni McCarthy into the South African Premier League, noting that with the discipline and commitment he exhibited playing professionally, he will achieve with LISCR FC.

Laffor had an illustrious career in South Africa while featuring for Jomo Cosmos, SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Chippa United.

In 2020, Laffor was released by Mamelodi Sundowns, having made 123 appearances, scoring 20 important goals. He also won the CAF Champions League with the club, becoming the first Liberian to win the prestigious CAF club competition.

To date, he is regarded as one of the best foreign players to have ever played in South Africa.

From 2008 to 2012, Laffor made 85 appearances for SuperSport United, scoring 24 times, having joined from Jomo Cosmos.

In 47 outings for the Liberian national team, Laffor scored five goals.
