Former VP Taylor Slams Efforts to Remove Speaker Koffa as “Selfish and Mean”

Monrovia – Former Vice President of Liberia, Jewel Howard Taylor, has condemned the ongoing efforts to oust House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa, calling them “selfish and mean” in a recent social media post. Her remarks follow mounting allegations of bribery linked to the push for Koffa’s removal, deepening divisions within the political landscape.

“The attempt to remove Speaker J. Fonati Koffa is now overshadowed by bribery allegations, making this effort selfish and mean,” Taylor stated in her post. “The suggestion of bribery undermines any other intentions.”

Her criticism comes as many Liberians closely follow developments in the House of Representatives, where reports suggest some lawmakers may have been offered bribes to support Koffa’s removal. These claims have raised serious concerns about the integrity of the process and the motivations driving the effort.

Taylor expressed dismay at the current political climate, suggesting that selfishness and greed have overshadowed genuine leadership in the country.

“Every day, we witness more hate and anger around us. It’s disheartening because the reasons for this mindset stem solely from selfishness and greed! How did we, as Liberians, reach this point?” she questioned.

In her call for unity, the former vice president urged lawmakers to prioritize the interests of their constituents over personal agendas.

“We are all Liberians, and we must come together and unite to build our nation,” she emphasized.

Taylor also called on members of the House of Representatives to resolve their differences and return to their responsibilities of serving the country. “I implore the members of the House of Representatives to return to their duties, mend their differences, and focus on the work of the people who elected them.”
